2018 Reading Challenge?

I found this on Pinterest and I kind of love it. (Full credit to: www.mommymannegren.com) Dreamscape might maybe fit a few of these categories, just saying ;-). Regardless, wishing that your 2018 be a good year for reading!!!!

The Best Books of the Year

This is “part 2” of my “if you don’t want to buy a book-lover a book-themed gift then you should consider buying them an actual book” set of posts. For this one, I thought I would assemble some of the best books of the year. But, well… who is going to take MY word for it? So instead I’ve assembled a collection of lists of the best books of the year. You’ll see a lot of commonalities and some differences, which I always think is interesting!

From the New York Times: Time’s Critique’s Top Books of 2017

From Buzzfeed: The 24 Best Fiction Books of 2017

From NPR: Our Guide to 2017’s Great Reads

From Publisher’s Weekly: PW’s Best Books 2017

From the Washington Post: Best Books 2017

From Goodreads: Goodreads Choice Awards Best Books of 2017

From Entertainment Weekly: The 10 Best Books of 2017

And lastly, from Powell’s Bookstore (I’m linking directly to their YA list but all their category lists are amazing, definitely worth checking out!): Powell’s Best Books of 2017

Happy reading! Can’t wait to see what books 2018 will bring us!

Holiday-themed Reading List (YA)

Here is a short list of holiday-themed YA because, once again ‘tis the season (really it’s my new catch-phrase). And because the obvious answer for what to buy that literary-minded person in your life if nothing in this shopping guide gave you any ideas is obviously… a book! I will be sharing several booklists over the next few days but holiday YA seemed like a fun place to start.

Full disclosure, I have only read a couple of the books on this list, but they all seem to be well reviewed and, in general, a lot of holiday fun. (I pulled from Amazon lists, Goodreads, Buzzfeed and more in the generating of this list.)

Happy Reading! 🙂

In no particular order…

My True Love Gave to Me edited by Stephanie Perkins

My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff

Let It Snow by Maureen Johnson, John Green, and Lauren Myracle

Decked With Holly by Marni Bates

Dash & Lily’s Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn

Ex-Mas by Kate Brian

Secret Santa by Sabrina James

And for childhood sentimentality, I had to include:

Christmas with Anne and Other Holiday Stories by L.M. Montgomery

The Secret Santa (Nancy Drew Notebooks Book 3) by Carolyn Keene

If anyone knows of anything else that should be on this list let me know!

MINI-REVIEW: The Last First Daughter

23674980_143871199704841_1010232642054670662_o

The Last First Daughter by Abbie Fine (Evernight Teen) was released today! This story draws you in from page one! Fast-paced, filled with action, adventure, romance, and an Anastasia-esque plot (if Anastasia was the take-charge, engineering-minded daughter of the President, living in a near-future post-apocalyptic America), it will keep you turning those pages until the end.

Highly recommend!

A (Brief) Literary Gift Guide

Because ’tis the season and all, I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite literary-themed gifts. It should be noted that I personally own or have purchased for friends/family at LEAST half the items in this guide. The other half are on my personal “Ask Santa” list… I love them all!

T-Shirts and More:

I have long been obsessed with Out of Print, a company that prints classic novel covers on t-shirts, totes, mugs, and more. They’ve expanded their repertoire to include other literary-themed items (I love their library-card socks!). They have such a range of books from classic novels to children’s favorites. Literally something for everyone!

Another great literary t-shirt company is Lithographs. This Boston-based company prints a novel’s full text (but tiny) on their t-shirts, while maintaining an iconic design specific to the story. They too have a great range, from classic literature to popular YA. They’ve even branched out to include a few films.

Etsy probably deserves an entire category of its own, but here are a few of my current faves:

And a little Harry Potter:

Pottery Barn Teen has an entire line dedicated to Harry Potter now. It’s not wrong that I think it’s cool even though I’m not a teen, right?

Posters:

I’m a huge fan of Pop Chart Lab in general and they have some fantastic and so fun options for the literary-minded. Above is the “Fictive Beer” poster. They also have an amazing diagram of literature by genre, and a scratch-off “Greatest Novels” poster (you scratch off the novels as you read them). Love love love.
